Instagram lets Zetrr Giveaways read the comments on your own posts. That's what every check is based on.
What Giveaways checks#
- A comment on your post. Only top-level comments count; replies don't.
- A required hashtag. The comment must contain the whole hashtag. Capital letters don't matter.
- A required @mention. The comment must mention the account you set.
- A minimum number of @mentions. For example, "tag two friends".
- Blocked accounts. Usernames you list can't win.
- Duplicate entries. With Remove duplicate entries on, each account counts once.
Set these up in Set entry rules for your giveaway.
What Giveaways can't check#
- Follows. It can't tell whether an entrant follows you or another account.
- Likes, shares, saves or story reposts. None of these are in the comment.
- Bots and fake accounts. It doesn't score accounts for age, profile pictures or suspected bots.
- Tagged friends. It counts @mentions in the text, but can't tell whether those accounts belong to real people.
- Other posts. It reads only the post you chose, on the account you connected.
What Zetrr reads#
Giveaways asks Instagram for two permissions: instagram_business_basic, to show your profile and your recent posts and reels, and instagram_business_manage_comments, to read entries and, only if you turn on announcements, reply to winning comments. For each comment it reads the text, the time, who wrote it and whether it's a reply.
Entrant comments are deleted after seven days. Winners stay until you delete them. See See your past giveaway winners.
Run a fair giveaway#
- Announce only rules you can check, or check the rest yourself.
- If your rules ask people to follow you, look at each winner's profile before you announce them.
- Use Blocked accounts for your team, partners or known spam accounts.
- Turn on Remove duplicate entries if your rules say one entry per person.
- Include the official rules and Instagram's required statements on your post, as the checklist before launch reminds you.
