How GST works on your invoices

In short

Zetrr Invoice calculates GST at one rate on the invoice’s taxable value, which is the subtotal minus any discount. It splits GST into CGST and SGST when your state and the client’s state match, and charges IGST when they differ. You can apply GST only after saving your GSTIN in Settings.

Zetrr Invoice handles Indian GST on your sales invoices. Here's how to turn it on, what it calculates and what it leaves to you.

Turn on GST#

  1. In Zetrr Invoice, open Settings and go to the Tax tab.
  2. Tick I have a GSTIN (GST registered) and enter your GSTIN.
  3. Set your Default Tax Rate (%). The hint reminds you that standard GST for services is 18%.
  4. On each invoice, tick Apply GST under Tax & Discount.

Without a saved GSTIN, Apply GST stays off and the editor says Add a GSTIN in Business Profile to apply GST on invoices.

What Zetrr calculates#

  • Taxable value: the total of your line items, minus any discount.
  • GST: the taxable value multiplied by the invoice's Tax Rate (%). You can change the rate on each invoice.
  • CGST + SGST (Same State): used when your state and the client's state are the same. Each is half the rate, so 18% becomes CGST 9% and SGST 9%.
  • IGST (Interstate): used when the states differ, or when either state is missing. It charges the full rate.
  • Total: the taxable value plus GST.

Zetrr picks the tax type from the state in your business address and the state in the client's Bill To address. If it doesn't fit your case, change Tax Type yourself.

What a GST invoice shows#

When Apply GST is on, the invoice:

  • carries the title Tax Invoice,
  • shows Place of Supply with the client's state,
  • prints your GSTIN, and the client's GSTIN if you entered it,
  • lists CGST and SGST, or IGST, with their rates,
  • adds an HSN/SAC column when any line has a code.

Your PAN prints when it's saved in Settings. To add HSN/SAC codes, save the service under Saved Items with an HSN/SAC Code, then pick it on the invoice. See Save clients and services.

What Invoice doesn't do#

  • It uses one GST rate per invoice. If items need different rates, put them on separate invoices.
  • It doesn't create e-invoices (IRN), file GST returns or calculate TDS.
  • It doesn't calculate other countries' taxes. Add those as a line item yourself.

Check what your business needs with your accountant. Zetrr records what you enter; it doesn't give tax advice.

GST on the bills you pay is recorded separately, on expenses. See Record your expenses.

Questions

Can I invoice without GST if I’m not registered?

Yes. Leave Apply GST off. The invoice then carries no GST lines and no Tax Invoice title.

Why did Zetrr choose IGST for a client in my state?

Zetrr compares the state in your business address with the state in the client’s Bill To address. If either is missing or they differ, it uses IGST. Fill in both states, or change Tax Type on the invoice.

Does Zetrr Invoice support e-invoicing or TDS?

No. It doesn’t generate an e-invoice IRN, file GST returns or calculate TDS.
