To send a follow-up message, add it to the automation that sends your first DM.
Add a follow-up#
- Open your automation in Automations.
- Turn on Send a follow-up.
- Under Send after the first DM, choose a delay: 1, 5, 15 or 30 minutes, or 1, 3, 6, 12 or 23 hours. The default is 1 hour.
- Write a Message (optional), add a Voice note (optional), or both.
- To add another, select Add another follow-up. You can have up to three.
- Select Save changes.
Each delay counts from when the previous message was sent.
Voice notes#
Record a voice note in your browser, or upload an audio file. A voice note can be up to 90 seconds long. If your browser blocks the microphone, upload a file instead.
The 24-hour window#
Instagram lets you message someone only within 24 hours of them writing to you or tapping a button. Follow-ups always send inside that window.
If the window has closed, Zetrr holds the follow-up and sends it the moment the person next messages you, for up to 14 days.
Comment automations need a tap first#
Your first reply to a comment is the one private reply Instagram allows. A follow-up can only come after the person taps a button, so on comment automations turn on Opening message or Ask to follow first first. Without one of them, Zetrr won’t save follow-ups on a comment automation.
On story reply and DM automations, the person has already messaged you, so follow-ups work straight away.
When follow-ups stop#
- You reply yourself: that person’s waiting follow-ups are cancelled.
- A message in the chain fails: the rest of that chain is cancelled.
- You pause the automation: follow-ups already scheduled for people still go out. See Pause, stop or disconnect Automation.
- You delete the automation: everything stops.
